Four Chadian Officers Killed in Clash with Suspected Highway Bandits

Four Chadian army officers lost their lives following a confrontation with suspected highway robbers in Borkou province, according to security and local sources.

The incident reportedly began Tuesday night with an ambush along the road between Faya and Kouba Oulanga, during which a travel agency driver was fatally shot.

Tensions escalated the following morning when relatives of the deceased allegedly clashed with the suspected attackers, prompting intervention by army units stationed in Faya-Largeau, the provincial capital.

Unofficial accounts indicate that the fatalities included the commander of the Gendarmerie legion and the head of the Chadian National and Nomadic Guard in the area.

Reports suggest that three suspected assailants were killed and another apprehended during the exchange.

In the aftermath, the governor of Borkou province, Djimta Ben Dergon, was suspended, with Territorial Administration Minister Limane Mahamat accusing him of failing to assume responsibility during the crisis.
