Adama Barrow has officially bid farewell to the Senegalese contingent of the ECOWAS Mission in The Gambia during a ceremony at the State Palace in Banjul, marking the completion of their mandate in The Gambia.
The Gambian leader presented certificates to the departing officers and soldiers, commending their professionalism and dedication while acknowledging their key role in safeguarding peace, security and stability in the country.
The presidency noted that the ECOMIG presence has been instrumental in strengthening democratic institutions and maintaining national stability since its deployment.
President Barrow also thanked the Economic Community of West African States for its continued support and expressed appreciation to Bassirou Diomaye Faye for advancing cooperation between Senegal and The Gambia.
Speaking at the ceremony, State Guard Battalion Commander Colonel Abdoulie Bah praised the departing troops for their strong collaboration with Gambian security forces and their contribution to national stability.
The ECOMIG force was deployed in 2017 following The Gambia’s political crisis and has since supported the country in consolidating peace, advancing security sector reforms and protecting democratic gains.
