The National Early Warning and Response Mechanism Coordination Centre in The Gambia has issued a security alert following fresh clashes between the Senegalese Armed Forces and elements of the Movement of Democratic Forces of Casamance (MFDC), which have led to population displacements along the border.
Civilians from several localities in Casamance have fled into Gambian communities, raising concerns over humanitarian and protection risks, although the total number of affected persons remains unknown.
The alert comes as Senegal intensifies military operations in northern Sindian, where three soldiers were killed in an accidental explosion during efforts to destroy cannabis fields.
Authorities say the operations have also targeted armed groups involved in illicit activities, while urging residents to avoid non-essential travel to affected areas.
Gambian officials have called for calm, warning against misinformation and stressing continued coordination with humanitarian actors as the situation evolves.
