Ghana Calls for Urgent Global Action at One Health Summit

John Dramani Mahama on Tuesday urged coordinated global action to address the growing convergence of health, environmental, and climate crises during the One Health World Summit, where he spoke alongside Emmanuel Macron.

He warned that transboundary threats affecting humans, animals, and ecosystems are increasing in “frequency, complexity, and severity,” stressing that traditional solutions are no longer sufficient in a rapidly changing world.

Using Ghana as an example, Mahama highlighted the impact of crop diseases, illegal mining, and environmental degradation on public health and development.

He called for stronger prevention strategies, equitable access to funding and technology, and the integration of the One Health approach into global policies, emphasizing that today’s decisions will shape the future of global health security.
