Gambia Launches Voter Registration Ahead of December Presidential Election

Gambia is set to begin a supplementary voter registration exercise as it prepares for the presidential election scheduled for December 5, 2026.

The operation, led by the Independent Electoral Commission, will run alongside a 44-day campaign ending May 21, with officials urging eligible citizens to register in large numbers to ensure a credible electoral process.

IEC chairman Joseph Colley emphasized the importance of the exercise, noting that nearly one million voters were registered in previous elections.

Incumbent President Adama Barrow is expected to seek a third term, while opposition figure Ousainou Darboe is also likely to contest, as the country heads into a full electoral cycle extending into 2027.
