Outgoing President Patrice Talon has confirmed he will join the future Council of Elders at the end of his second and final term, in line with constitutional provisions.
The consultative body will include former heads of key institutions and is expected to play a role in mediation, advice, and political stabilization.
Speaking after voting in the April 12, 2026 presidential election, Talon described the council as a “chamber of wisdom” aimed at fostering dialogue and national cohesion.
He emphasized that his participation reflects a commitment to continuity and stability, as Benin moves toward the conclusion of a significant electoral cycle.
