Ghana to Launch Bid Process For New National Airline

The government of Ghana is set to publish a Request for Expression of Interest (RfEOI) in May 2026 as part of plans to establish a new national airline.

The initiative is aimed at revitalizing the country’s aviation sector, boosting tourism, and strengthening regional and international connectivity.

Authorities see the move as a strategic step to reposition Ghana as a key aviation hub in West Africa, following years of challenges including strong regional competition and the impact of the COVID-19.

Under the proposed model, the selected strategic partner will hold a 75% majority stake in the airline, while Ghana will retain 25%, a structure designed to attract experienced global operators and ensure sustainability.

The government is counting on foreign investment, technical expertise, and operational efficiency to deliver a competitive carrier, with interest already emerging from airlines in North America, Europe, Africa, and the Gulf region.

Officials say priority will be given to partners with proven track records, as the project seeks to create jobs, improve service quality, and position Ghana as a major gateway for air travel and trade across the sub-region.
