Two American soldiers have been reported missing following an incident at a cliff near the Cap Draa site during African Lion 2026 in Morocco.
The disappearance occurred around 9:00 PM over the weekend, according to Moroccan and U.S. authorities, who have not yet disclosed the exact circumstances surrounding the event.
Search and rescue operations were immediately launched, involving the Royal Armed Forces, U.S. military units, and other participating contingents.
The response includes coordinated land, air, and maritime efforts, highlighting the scale of cooperation among partners engaged in the exercise.
Investigations are ongoing, with no official explanation yet confirmed.
Authorities note that the rugged terrain and environmental conditions in the Cap Draa area could complicate search efforts.
Jointly organized by Morocco and the United States, African Lion is one of the largest military exercises on the continent, bringing together thousands of troops from multiple countries. The drills aim to enhance interoperability, crisis response, and regional security cooperation.
Further updates are expected as search operations continue.
