An Accra Circuit Court has sentenced 43-year-old TikToker Camilla Alhassan to one year in prison after she pleaded guilty to charges of offensive conduct and publishing false news.
The conviction followed a series of TikTok videos in which she falsely claimed that President John Mahama performed ritual sacrifices involving 32 cows to secure victory in the 2024 general election, allegations prosecutors said were made without any evidence.
The court delivered the sentence on Thursday after Alhassan admitted to all the charges. She had earlier been remanded into custody while awaiting the results of a pregnancy test ordered by the court before sentencing.
Prosecutors also said she falsely claimed that the government’s distribution of sanitary pads to victims of the June 29 floods was intended to conceal the alleged rituals, assertions investigators described as completely unsubstantiated.
