Egypt and Chad have signed several cooperation agreements in health, culture, tourism and civil aviation, following the fourth session of their Joint Commission in N’Djamena.
The talks, led by Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, also focused on expanding economic ties in infrastructure, agriculture, energy, transport and investment.
The two countries are advancing plans for the El Gran Corridor company to develop logistics platforms, agricultural projects and meat exports in Chad, while Egypt is also supporting a proposed road corridor linking Egypt to Chad through Libya to boost trade between North and Central Africa.
Health and education featured prominently in the partnership, with Egypt reporting that a medical mission carried out more than 500 surgical procedures in N’Djamena and equipped a dialysis centre with 25 machines. Cairo also pledged continued training for Chadian medical personnel and treatment for patients in Egyptian hospitals.
Meanwhile, construction of the Alexandria University campus in N’Djamena has been completed, with capacity for up to 6,000 students and planned programmes in medicine, nursing, engineering and computer science.
The two sides also agreed to strengthen cultural and tourism cooperation, including the development of a Chadian national museum and medical tourism, before signing memoranda of understanding in the agreed priority sectors.
