Guinea’s Doumbouya Prioritizes Security and National Sovereignty After Return

Guinean President Mamadi Doumbouya chaired an extraordinary session of the High Council of Defense and National Security shortly after returning to Conakry from annual leave in Greece.

The meeting brought together Prime Minister Amadou Oury Bah, government officials and senior military and security commanders, with discussions focused on national defense, territorial protection and security challenges.

Doumbouya praised the security forces for protecting the country but called for heightened vigilance, particularly through stronger border surveillance, increased patrols and greater coordination among security agencies.

He also reaffirmed plans to modernize Guinea’s military and paramilitary forces and oversee the acquisition of appropriate equipment, while several newly promoted officers were formally sworn into their positions.
