The International Monetary Fund (IMF) team will travel to Dakar from August 19 to September 1, 2026, to continue discussions with Senegalese authorities on a possible new financing agreement. The mission, led by IMF mission chief for Senegal Mercedes Vera Martin, will focus on economic policies and reforms that could form the basis of future financial support.
The talks come as Senegal seeks to restore full financial cooperation with the IMF following concerns over inaccurate reporting of budget and debt data. The Fund said Senegal has made progress in strengthening public financial management, budgetary governance and transparency, but further measures are needed to resolve the issue.
