Burkina Faso Marks Four Years Under Ibrahim Traoré

Large crowds gathered across Burkina Faso as authorities marked four years since Captain Ibrahim Traoré came to power, with celebrations highlighting support for his leadership and the government’s claims of progress in security and development.

Events were held in Ouagadougou, Bobo-Dioulasso, Djibo, Kaya, Fada and other locations on September 30 and into October 1. Participants paid tribute to the country’s defence and security forces and celebrated what authorities described as gains under the Popular Progressive Revolution.

Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo, speaking at a gathering in Ouagadougou, said Burkina Faso had regained its confidence and was advancing despite the ongoing security crisis. He credited what he called a “patriotic awakening” behind Traoré’s leadership.

The government highlighted developments in defence and security, infrastructure, healthcare, governance, agriculture and the economy. Ouédraogo also said the country had recorded “major victories” against armed groups and declared that “the days of terrorism are numbered.”

The celebrations come as Traoré’s government continues to frame national sovereignty, security and economic transformation as central priorities, presenting the past four years as a period of significant change for Burkina Faso.
