At least several people have been killed or injured after torrential rains triggered flooding, road disruptions and property damage across Senegal, with Dakar and the northern region of Matam among the worst-affected areas, authorities said.
Some rain gauges recorded more than 100 millimetres of rainfall, flooding communities and disrupting movement across the country, according to the Ministry of the Interior and Public Security.
Authorities have yet to release a confirmed casualty figure. Officials are also investigating a building collapse in Kaolack, where the full extent of the damage remains unclear.
Interior Minister Mouhamadou Makhtar Cissé has ordered emergency services and local authorities to intensify rescue and relief operations.
Governors, prefects and sub-prefects are assessing damage, assisting affected residents and securing areas at risk as emergency operations continue.
The government has urged people to stay away from flooded roads and weakened buildings as conditions remain unstable.
