Benin Secures 65.5 Billion CFA Francs in French Funding

Benin has secured 65.5 billion CFA francs (€99.8 million) in financing from French institutions for projects in electricity, agriculture and forensic science, the presidency said Monday.

Two agreements worth 61.9 billion CFA francs were signed with the French Development Agency, while Bpifrance committed a further 3.54 billion CFA francs.

The largest allocation, 52.1 billion CFA francs, will expand Benin’s electricity network and support more than 120,000 new connections across 750 localities.

Agriculture projects will receive 9.8 billion CFA francs, including funding for fish farming, poultry, rabbit farming and oilseed production.

A further 3.54 billion CFA francs will support the creation of a national DNA laboratory, with capacity for up to 30,000 analyses annually, as well as training for more than 500 professionals.

The financing was secured during a meeting between Beninese and French officials and forms part of efforts to deepen cooperation between Benin, France and the European Union.
