Mali Forces Reinforce Presence in Kidal as FLA Withdraws

The Azawad Liberation Front (FLA) has announced a controlled withdrawal from Kidal following intensified airstrikes by Malian forces, as government troops reinforce their presence in the strategic northern city.

The Malian government said the Malian Armed Forces (FAMa) strengthened their deployment in Kidal on October 6 under Operation Dougoukoloko, following air and ground operations against what authorities described as a coalition of armed groups.

The government said FAMa had recently adjusted positions around Anéfif and Aguel-hoc following coordinated attacks, while maintaining operations across the wider Kidal region.

Malian authorities said the operations are aimed at extending state authority and protecting the country’s territorial integrity. They also confirmed that Russian personnel are supporting Malian forces.

The government called on residents to remain calm, saying the security operations are intended to create conditions for the gradual restoration of government administration and basic public services in Kidal.

Authorities said the return of state services would support local development and help restore normal life in the region.
