Benin Unveils Vision 2060 Roadmap to Drive Prosperity by Independence Centenary

Benin has launched an ambitious long-term development strategy aimed at transforming the country into a peaceful, prosperous, and globally influential nation by the centenary of its independence.

President Patrice Talon officially presented Vision Benin 2060, titled ALAFIA, a World of Splendors, during a high-level ceremony held on February 3 in Cotonou, attended by former president Nicéphore Soglo, senior government officials, institutional leaders, development partners, and representatives of civil society.

Designed as a national roadmap, the strategy seeks to strengthen peace and social justice, promote good governance and citizen participation, drive inclusive economic growth, and enhance Benin’s cultural and international standing, positioning the initiative as a defining legacy as President Talon approaches the end of his final constitutional term ahead of the April 2026 election.

The Vision 2060 framework is built on four core pillars and supported by nine strategic orientations covering economic transformation, human capital development, national resilience, development diplomacy, social inclusion, and balanced territorial planning.

Under its Alafia scenario, Benin projects average economic growth of 8.6 percent between 2026 and 2060, with real GDP per capita expected to reach 6.28 million CFA francs by 2060.

Implementation is planned across four phases, from consolidating existing achievements to ensuring long-term social well-being, guided by a financing strategy focused on increasing self-reliance and reducing dependence on external aid, while addressing key challenges such as economic diversification, informality, inequality, and regional security risks.
