During a visit to border areas with Mali, Burkina Faso’s Security Minister Mahamadou Sana reaffirmed the government’s commitment to balancing security imperatives with the free movement of people and goods within the Alliance of Sahel States.
Touring key western localities such as Koloko and Faramana on March 29–30, he emphasized the need to secure strategic corridors facing terrorist threats while eliminating abusive practices that hinder cross-border trade.
Addressing Defense and Security Forces, the minister called for discipline, professionalism, and an end to extortion and harassment along transport routes, urging Burkina Faso to set an example within the AES.
He also highlighted the importance of intelligence sharing and operational coordination to strengthen security.
Local authorities expressed cautious optimism over improving conditions, while security forces reiterated their commitment to protecting communities and facilitating smoother movement, seen as vital for economic recovery and regional integration in Burkina Faso.
