Burkina Faso’s Patriotic Support Fund Mobilizes Over 45 Billion FCFA in Q1 2026

The momentum of national solidarity remains strong in Burkina Faso, as authorities report significant progress in financing the fight against terrorism through the Patriotic Support Fund (FSP).

During a session held in the presence of Prime Minister Apollinaire Joachim Kyélem de Tambèla, officials announced that 45.29 billion FCFA had been mobilized in the first quarter of 2026, representing 22.65% of the annual target of 200 billion FCFA.

The bulk of the funds came from tax levies, accounting for over 50% of revenues, followed by mandatory deductions from public sector salaries and contributions from telecommunications and television sectors, alongside voluntary donations from citizens and the diaspora.

Over three years, the fund has exceeded expectations, mobilizing nearly 497 billion FCFA against an initial target of 400 billion, reflecting an achievement rate of over 124%.

These resources have supported key security efforts, including funding for the Volunteers for the Defence of the Homeland (VDP), acquisition of equipment, infrastructure development, and capacity building with attention to human rights.

Authorities attribute this performance to transparent management and strong public backing, positioning the fund as a cornerstone of the country’s strategy for financial sovereignty and territorial security.
