Ghana Plans to Rename Kotoka International Airport to Accra International Airport

The Ghanaian government has announced plans to rename Kotoka International Airport as Accra International Airport, signaling a significant change to one of the country’s most prominent national landmarks.

The disclosure was made by the Leader of Government Business in Parliament, Mahama Ayariga, during an interaction with journalists ahead of the first sitting of the Second Session of the 9th Parliament.

According to Ayariga, the proposed renaming is part of a broader effort to align public institutions with Ghana’s democratic ideals and national identity.

He indicated that the process will follow due parliamentary procedure, with a bill to be formally presented before the House.

The decision is expected to spark public discussion because of the historical weight attached to the airport’s current name, and Parliament is expected to play a central role in debating the proposal once it is officially introduced.
