The Nigerian Police has confirmed that several residents were abducted during a series of night-time raids on villages in Kano State, Northern Nigeria.
Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said investigations were under way and that the authorities were still working to determine the exact number of people taken.
Local accounts indicate that at least eight people were seized in Biresawa village in Tsanyawa Local Government Area after heavily armed men entered the community between 11 pm and midnight on Monday.
Residents reported that the attackers moved with confidence and seized two men and six women before disappearing into the dark.
The violence extended beyond Biresawa. Communities in Sarmawa, Yan Chibi and Gano also reported assaults the same night. Police say efforts to establish the full scale of the incident are ongoing.
The latest attack comes amid rising insecurity across northern Nigeria. Since last Monday, armed groups have carried out major school abductions in Kebbi, Kwara and Niger states, raising national concern.
