Senegal hosted a media briefing by the Canadian Embassy in Dakar on rising immigration fraud risks linked to the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Officials from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada highlighted scams such as fake visa offers, unauthorized consultants, falsified documents, and fraudulent websites targeting applicants.
According to Emmanuel Lussier, Canada reviewed over 9,000 fraud-related cases monthly in 2024, with 52,000 temporary visa refusals due to false declarations in just six months.
Authorities warned that offenders risk a five-year entry ban and heavy fines, urging the public to rely only on official channels for immigration processes.
