Togo has cautioned against the fragmentation of regional security, as diplomatic initiatives intensify to sustain dialogue between ECOWAS, the African Union and Sahelian states.
Togolese Foreign Minister Robert Dussey warned that destabilizing the Alliance of Sahel States would have far-reaching consequences across the subregion, stressing that regional peace “cannot be fragmented” in the face of persistent security threats.
The warning comes as high-level diplomatic engagements continue across the region.
Mamadou Tangara has held talks with key leaders, including Julius Maada Bio, to reinforce cooperation and maintain dialogue channels with Sahelian authorities such as Assimi Goïta.
These efforts follow the withdrawal of Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger from ECOWAS in 2025 and the formation of the AES, amid ongoing security challenges that continue to demand coordinated regional responses.
