Beninese Army Provides Free Medical Care to Strengthen Civil-Military Ties

The Beninese Armed Forces have conducted free medical consultations in Kountori, in northwestern Benin, as part of efforts to bring the military closer to local communities while addressing urgent healthcare needs.

Following an initial phase in Porga, the initiative saw around 550 patients treated on its first day, with military doctors and civilian staff working together to provide essential services in an area with limited access to healthcare.

Coordinated by Lieutenant Colonel Tassou Abdou Wassiou and Lieutenant Doctor Avlessi Mardochée, the operation mobilized about thirty military caregivers alongside civilian personnel.

Beyond healthcare delivery, authorities say the initiative aims to build trust between the army and the population amid ongoing security challenges.

Integrated into Operation Mirador, the effort reflects a broader strategy combining social support, local presence, and security engagement to promote stability and counter violent extremism.
