Senegal’s President Faye Launches KIIRAAY Party to Consolidate Political Majority

Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye on Saturday officially launched KIIRAAY – The Republican Patriots, a new political party aimed at consolidating his political base and structuring his governing majority after his split with former ally Ousmane Sonko.

The party was unveiled during a founding congress at the King Fahd Palace in Dakar, where the Diomaye President coalition was formally transformed into a permanent political organization intended to bring together parties, movements and individuals supporting the president’s reform agenda ahead of future elections, including the 2027 local polls.

In his address, President Faye said KIIRAAY would be built on ethics, transparency and service to the public interest, insisting that political responsibilities should be treated as duties rather than rewards.

He pledged that the party’s finances would be managed transparently and reaffirmed his commitment to an independent judiciary, stating that no member would be protected from accountability.

The launch of KIIRAAY marks a major step in the reorganization of Senegal’s political landscape, with the president seeking to establish his own political structure to sustain his majority and advance his reform program.
