President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has signed an order extending mandatory registration of civilian-held firearms across Liberia, citing growing threats linked to the proliferation of illicit weapons.
Authorities say the measure is aimed at curbing rising armed robberies and violence, which continue to undermine national stability and public safety.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to regional and international frameworks, including those of ECOWAS and the UN Arms Trade Treaty, while maintaining regulated exemptions under existing law.
Implementation will be overseen by the Ministry of Justice, with officials urging gun owners to comply as part of efforts to strengthen security and reduce illegal arms circulation.
