President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday carried out a limited cabinet reshuffle, resulting in the removal of two key ministers from Nigeria’s Federal Executive Council.
Wale Edun, who served as Minister of Finance and Coordinator of the Economy, and Umar Dangiwa, Minister of Housing and Urban Development, were relieved of their duties.
The announcement was made by George Akume, who confirmed that Taiwo Oyedele will take over as Minister of Finance while also coordinating economic policy.
Reacting to his dismissal, Edun defended his tenure, pointing to improved macroeconomic indicators, including stronger growth and easing inflation, which he attributed to reforms aimed at boosting investor confidence and policy coherence.
He expressed appreciation to the president and urged continuity in reform efforts. Dangiwa also thanked the administration, highlighting achievements in the housing sector such as the “Renewed Hope” programme, expanded public-private partnerships, and reforms in land financing.
Both former ministers described their time in office as an opportunity to contribute to national development and expressed optimism about Nigeria’s economic future.
