Chad to Hold Partial Legislative and Senatorial Elections in June

Chad will organize partial legislative and senatorial elections on June 21, 2026, to fill vacant seats in Parliament, the National Election Management Agency announced.

According to ANGE President Ahmat Bartchiret, the elections will take place in the department of Haraz Albiar for a parliamentary seat and in the province of Chari-Baguirmi for a senatorial position. Candidate submissions are scheduled from May 11 to May 15, 2026.

The legislative seat became vacant following the death of MP Haoua Outhman Djamé, leaving the Haraz Albiar constituency without representation.

Meanwhile, the senatorial vacancy in Chari-Baguirmi stems from the appointment of Mariam Mahamat Nour to an international role as Vice-President of the Commission of the Economic Community of Central African States.

ANGE, the independent constitutional body responsible for organizing elections in Chad, stated that the by-elections will be conducted under the same standards of transparency and fairness as national polls.

The move is part of broader efforts to strengthen democratic institutions in Chad during its ongoing political transition.
