Burkina Faso has launched a major agricultural support initiative aimed at helping displaced populations return to areas recently recaptured from armed groups.
The programme, officially launched near Kaya under the theme “One Village Resettled, One Tiller,” is valued at more than two billion CFA francs and is expected to benefit over 100,000 returning displaced persons across the country.
The operation targets villages previously occupied by jihadist groups but now reopened following military security operations.
According to Amadou Dicko, more than 13,000 households in 14 regions will receive support through the distribution of 500 power tillers, 1,950 tons of fertilizer and 260 tons of improved seeds free of charge.
Authorities say the initiative is designed to accelerate the resumption of farming activities, improve food security and stabilize communities affected by years of insecurity.
Since 2015, extremist violence in Burkina Faso has forced hundreds of thousands of people to flee their homes, making resettlement and economic recovery a major national priority.
