Senegal is set to benefit from nearly 130 billion FCFA under the Food System Resilience Programme (FSRP), a six-year initiative aimed at transforming the country’s agro-sylvo-pastoral sector and strengthening resilience against food and climate crises.
The programme, presented in Dakar by national coordinator Mouhamadou Lamine Dia, is supported by Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), World Bank, International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and regional agricultural institutions.
Authorities say the initiative is designed to address growing food security challenges linked to climate change, demographic pressure, and economic instability.
The programme includes the creation of 1,000 hectares of modern farms for community cooperatives, the development of 4,700 hectares of irrigated village perimeters in the Senegal River valley, and the construction of 100 livestock vaccination parks nationwide.
It also plans to modernize veterinary and border inspection facilities while investing in agricultural research, digital innovation, and climate-smart farming solutions.
Officials stressed that beyond infrastructure investments, the success of the programme will depend on public awareness and community participation, with journalists and media organizations expected to play a strategic role in promoting food sovereignty and rural transformation efforts across the country.
