Benin’s President to Visit Mauritania for Talks on Bilateral Cooperation and Regional Security

Benin’s President Romuald Wadagni is scheduled to make a state visit to Mauritania on July 6 at the invitation of President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani.

According to the Beninese presidency, the two leaders will meet in Nouakchott to discuss ways of strengthening bilateral relations, expanding cooperation in key sectors, and enhancing partnerships between their countries.

Their discussions will also cover regional issues, including security, development, and integration challenges facing West Africa and the Sahel.

The visit forms part of President Wadagni’s broader diplomatic outreach aimed at strengthening Benin’s relations across the region.

Since taking office, he has intensified engagement with neighbouring countries, including recent efforts to restore dialogue with the Alliance of Sahel States (AES).

The Beninese presidency said the visit reflects Cotonou’s commitment to promoting regional cooperation and addressing shared challenges through dialogue, with a joint communiqué expected at the conclusion of the talks.
