Ghana Begins Construction of New Airport Car Park and Retail Complex

Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama has launched construction of a seven-story multipurpose car park and retail complex at Terminal 3 of Accra International Airport. The facility is expected to provide about 2,030 covered parking spaces, alongside commercial, leisure and hotel facilities, as part of efforts to expand the airport’s capacity and strengthen Ghana’s position as a major African aviation hub. Mahama said passenger traffic rose from 1.8 million in 2022 to 2.5 million in 2025, underscoring the need for additional infrastructure.

The project forms part of a broader airport development program that includes a new Ghana Civil Aviation Authority control tower, the renovation of Terminal 2 and a connecting hall between Terminals 2 and 3. President Mahama said the government aims to make Ghana a preferred destination and convenient transit point while improving regional connectivity. The projects are being financed through the resources of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority and Ghana Airports Company Limited, without direct state funding.
