Malian Army Says It Repelled Fresh Central Mali Attacks as FLA Claims Offensive Continues

The Malian Armed Forces said it repelled fresh attacks on the towns of Konna and Somadougou in central Mali following coordinated operations with the Africa Corps.

According to the military, armed groups described as terrorists were driven back during combined air and ground operations after attempting to attack Konna and advance toward Soufroulaye from Somadougou.

The army said the operations inflicted heavy losses on the attackers but did not provide casualty figures or disclose any losses among its own forces.

The latest clashes followed earlier attacks targeting military positions in Gao, Aguelhok, Anéfis, Sévaré and Kéniéroba, where the army said its troops had also successfully responded.

Meanwhile, the Azawad Liberation Front maintained that its fighters remained engaged in Anéfis, with spokesperson Elmaouloud Radamane declaring that “a long night” awaited Malian forces and their allies.

As of Saturday evening, the Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims had not claimed responsibility for or commented on the day’s attacks, leaving its role in the incidents unconfirmed.

The renewed violence comes amid escalating fighting across northern and central Mali and follows the large-scale coordinated offensive launched in April 2026 by the FLA and JNIM, which resulted in intense clashes and the capture of several military positions in northern Mali.
