Burkina Faso’s President Ibrahim Traoré, who currently chairs the Confederation of Sahel States (AES), has reaffirmed his support for joint humanitarian and gender initiatives involving Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger.
President Traoré received ministers responsible for humanitarian action and gender from the three AES countries in Ouagadougou. The delegation briefed him on the second AES Humanitarian Forum and a ministerial meeting on gender issues.
Mali’s Minister of Health and Social Development, Colonel-Major Assa Badiallo Touré, called for a shift from emergency response toward long-term resilience and recovery programmes for vulnerable populations. The ministers said a common roadmap would guide these efforts following consultations in Niamey and Bamako.
The three countries also announced plans to establish an AES Women’s Platform to increase women’s representation within the Confederation. The initiatives form part of the AES’s broader efforts to address the region’s humanitarian challenges and strengthen cooperation under its second year of activities.
