Senegal Government, UN Expand Cooperation on Human Capital and Development

Senegal and UNICEF are looking to broaden their partnership beyond traditional social-sector programmes, with human capital development and institutional capacity-building emerging as key areas of cooperation.

The discussions took place Thursday between Prime Minister Ahmadou Al Aminou Lo and UNICEF Deputy Executive Director Hannan Sulieman, who is overseeing the UN House in Diamniadio. The talks were held within the framework of Senegal’s Senegal 2050 National Transformation Agenda.

Education and vocational training remain central to the partnership, while strengthening the ability of government ministries to design and implement programmes was also identified as a priority.

The two sides also discussed the planned relocation of the United Nations system to Diamniadio, in line with the agreed schedule.

The meeting comes as Senegal seeks to strengthen cooperation with international partners around its long-term development strategy. The UNICEF delegation also praised the country’s role in promoting multilateralism and subregional integration.
