Researchers and health experts from across West Africa are working to transform findings presented at the 2025 ECOWAS International Lassa Fever Conference into scientific papers that can support efforts to prevent and control the disease. The West African Health Organisation (WAHO), in collaboration with the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) and other partners, held a five-day workshop in Abuja from August 17 to 21, 2026, bringing together lead authors, mentors and editors to strengthen manuscripts and prepare them for journal submission.
The workshop also marked the formal presentation of the conference report, which documents key scientific contributions, discussions, recommendations and regional priorities on Lassa fever. WAHO says turning the research into peer-reviewed publications will strengthen the evidence available to policymakers, improve preparedness and support regional responses to outbreaks, while also building research capacity and increasing the visibility of scientific knowledge generated in West Africa.
