Burkina Faso recorded its lowest monthly number of road accidents and fatalities in 2026 in September, according to figures from the Ministry of Security.
The country registered 1,450 accidents, 1,055 injuries and 69 deaths in September, down from 1,516 accidents, 1,347 injuries and 79 deaths in August.
In the first nine months of the year, Burkina Faso recorded 15,853 road accidents, 12,858 injuries and 910 deaths.
The ministry attributed the decline to road-safety campaigns, stricter enforcement of helmet requirements and the introduction of video-based traffic fines.
Security Minister Mahamadou Sana urged road users to maintain caution, follow traffic rules and wear protective helmets.
