Nigeria Restricts Air Travel for 46 Ebola Contacts

Nigeria has ordered 46 people identified as contacts of an Ebola patient to be barred from air travel for at least 21 days as authorities step up efforts to contain the outbreak.

Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo announced the measure following a virtual meeting with Health Minister Muhammad Ali Pate.

The group includes 44 people who came into contact with the infected woman at a hospital and two members of her domestic staff, Keyamo said.

He directed the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria to enforce the restriction and strengthen Ebola screening at international airports, including temperature checks and travel history monitoring.

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority was also instructed to notify domestic and international airlines of the travel restrictions.

The measures aim to limit potential transmission while health authorities work to establish whether the identified contacts have contracted the virus.
