At least 13 people were killed and several others injured when gunmen stormed a mosque in Mantau, Nigeria’s Katsina State, during early morning prayers.
Security officials confirmed that reinforcements were deployed to the scene and an investigation has been launched into the incident.
The attack comes a day after a Nigerian Air Force operation in Danmusa, also in Katsina, which dispersed armed groups and enabled 62 hostages to escape captivity.
Nigeria continues to grapple with frequent assaults from armed groups, Boko Haram, and ISWAP, with kidnappings for ransom remaining a widespread threat despite carrying the death penalty under national law.
