At Least 11 Trapped, Two Dead in Lagos Building Collapse

Rescue operations are ongoing after a two-story building in Nigeria’s commercial capital, Lagos, collapsed on Tuesday, killing at least one person and injuring dozens, as of the time of filing this report.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency at the time of filing this report, confirmed that four people have been rescued from the debris and transported to a nearby hospital with varying degrees of injuries.

Most of the victims are believed to be construction workers.

Building collapses are not uncommon in Nigeria, raising concerns about construction standards and regulatory enforcement in the city’s rapidly expanding real estate sector.
