Authorities Seize Hundreds of Phones and Weapons in Major Prison Raid in Chad

Chadian authorities carried out a large-scale dawn operation on October 9 at the Klessoum remand center in N’Djamena to eliminate the circulation of illegal items inside the facility.

The surprise search, jointly organized by the Ministries of Justice and Public Security and Immigration, was supervised by Public Prosecutor Moussa Abdelkerim Saleh and involved police, gendarmerie, and prison officers.

Each cell was thoroughly inspected, leading to the seizure of 300 mobile phones, 228 bladed weapons, 79 SIM cards, 17 doses of narcotics, 5 liters of homemade drugs, and several other dangerous objects.

Officials described the discovery as a major security breach threatening both inmates and prison staff. Prosecutor Saleh condemned the situation, stressing that some detainees had been using phones to defraud citizens from within the prison.

He urged prison authorities to strengthen oversight and enforce stricter disciplinary measures.

The operation, authorities said, reflects the government’s determination to restore order and ensure safer, more humane conditions in the country’s correctional facilities.
