Benin’s government has announced protective measures for its citizens in Lambaréné, Gabon, following reports of intimidation linked to the allocation of market spaces amid new restrictions on certain foreign-led economic activities.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed concern over threats targeting the Beninese community and reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the safety and rights of its nationals abroad.
Authorities urged calm and respect for the host country’s laws while stressing the need for peaceful coexistence.
Cotonou, in coordination with Gabonese officials, plans to deploy a mission in the coming days to identify and register Beninese citizens who wish to return voluntarily.
While emphasising respect for state sovereignty, the government reiterated its dedication to Pan-African solidarity, underscoring the belief that Africans should feel at home anywhere on the continent.
