Benin opposition candidate Paul Hounkpè has acknowledged the early lead of the Wadagni-Talata ticket in the presidential election, offering republican congratulations to Romuald Wadagni.
In a statement issued in Cotonou, he said initial trends indicate a clear advantage for the ruling camp and reaffirmed his commitment to democratic principles and national stability.
Hounkpè thanked his supporters and called for unity, urging the incoming leadership to prioritize social justice, economic inclusion, and national reconciliation.
The vote, which saw nearly 8 million registered voters, was largely a two-horse race following the exclusion of Les Démocrates, with final official results expected in the coming days.
