Benin Opposition Party Submits Renaud Agbodjo’s Candidacy for 2026 Presidential Election

Benin’s main opposition party, Les Démocrates, has officially submitted Renaud Agbodjo’s candidacy for the April 12, 2026, presidential election, with Jude Lodjou as his running mate.

The submission took place Tuesday evening at the National Autonomous Electoral Commission (CENA) headquarters, where CENA President Sacca Lafia confirmed receipt of their application.

The move follows a tense period of internal debate within the party before Agbodjo’s endorsement.

Rival candidate and MP Kamel Ouassagari later urged unity, calling for “sacrifice for the future of the people,” amid concerns over possible disqualification under Benin’s sponsorship rules.
