Benin Unveils Final Budget of Talon Era Ahead of 2026 Elections

The Beninese government has presented the final budget of President Patrice Talon’s administration, less than eight months before the April 2026 general elections.

The 2026 draft budget, valued at 3,783.984 billion FCFA compared to 3,551.005 billion FCFA in 2025, focuses on consolidating economic transformation, boosting social equity, and ensuring a smooth political transition.

It projects a 7.5% growth rate, supported by agriculture, industry, port activities in Cotonou, and tourism, with socially sensitive spending accounting for 42% of allocations.

Key measures include investments in health, education, energy, transport, digital technology, and the modernization of public services.

The budget also outlines expanded nutrition programs for mothers and children, universal school canteens in public schools, scholarships in private institutions, reforms in technical education, and the continued rollout of Sèmè-City.

Funding is allocated for the modernization of health infrastructure, the organization of the 2026 elections, and enhanced national security, including citywide video surveillance and upgraded defense equipment.

The draft will be presented to the National Assembly by the Minister of Economy and Finance, who is also a presidential candidate.
