Romuald Wadagni officially launched a new political chapter in Benin after signing a decree appointing the members of his first government on the same day as his inauguration in Cotonou.
The new administration, made up of 25 members including six women, reflects the president’s promises of democratic continuity, social development and stronger national security.
Several key figures retained strategic roles, including Yvon Détchénou as Minister of Justice, while Aristide Medenou was appointed Minister of Economy and Finance. Corinne Amori Brunet now heads Foreign Affairs, as the government positions itself to strengthen regional and international partnerships.
The new cabinet also places strong emphasis on agriculture, education, security, and employment, with ministries aligned to the president’s reform agenda.
Adi Yétan Bloukounon Goubalan takes charge of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, while Aurélie Adam Soulé Zoumarou retained the Sports portfolio.
During his inaugural address, President Wadagni pledged to uphold Benin’s democratic traditions and vowed not to “give in to fear or complacency” amid growing regional security threats.
He also promised to govern with “integrity, courage and consistency” as the country begins a new seven-year political era.
