Boko Haram Attack Kills Over 60 in Northeast Nigeria

More than 60 people, including civilians and soldiers, were killed when Boko Haram fighters launched an overnight assault on Darul Jamal, a resettled community in Borno State’s Bama region.

The attack occurred on Friday evening, targeting residents who had only recently returned after years in an internally displaced persons camp.

Local officials confirmed that nearly 60 civilians and five military personnel lost their lives in the massacre.

Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum, who visited the village on Saturday, expressed shock at the scale of the violence and pledged support to survivors.

He noted the urgent need for stronger security measures, including the deployment of trained forest guards to vulnerable areas.

Boko Haram, which operates in Nigeria as well as parts of Chad, Niger, and Cameroon, has a long record of deadly assaults on communities, security forces, and schools across the region.
