Burkina Faso and Ghana Sign Seven Agreements at 13th Joint Cooperation Commission

Burkina Faso and Ghana have signed seven legal instruments in Ouagadougou during the 13th Joint Commission meeting, signaling renewed momentum in bilateral cooperation.

The ministerial session was co-chaired by Burkina Faso’s Foreign Minister, Karamoko Jean Marie Traore, and Ghana’s Foreign Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.

The agreements and memoranda of understanding aim to deepen collaboration across strategic sectors and strengthen the Ouagadougou–Accra partnership.

Key instruments include accords on transport and transit, mutual recognition of national driving licenses, disaster prevention and humanitarian crisis management, and the fight against illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.

The two countries also endorsed a cross-border cooperation framework, established a joint commission to reaffirm their shared boundary, and adopted a protocol creating periodic consultation mechanisms between border administrative authorities.

At the close of the meeting, both ministers praised the leadership of Ibrahim Traore and John Dramani Mahama for fostering closer ties.

The delegations committed to ensuring effective implementation of the agreements, with the 14th Joint High Commission for Cooperation scheduled to take place in Ghana in 2028.
