Chad PM Outlines Measures to Strengthen National Cohesion

The Prime Minister of Chad, Allahmaye Halina, was questioned in the Senate on March 16 by Abderaman Koulamallah about efforts to strengthen national cohesion amid recurring intercommunal tensions.

Responding to concerns over conflicts linked to natural resources and the spread of ethnic hate speech online, Halina said national unity remains a key priority for the government, stressing that maintaining cohesion is a responsibility shared by authorities and citizens.

He highlighted measures including strengthening local administrative authorities, continuing disarmament operations that have seized nearly 4,000 weapons, and prosecuting those involved in deadly clashes.

The government has also launched a National Social Cohesion Strategy for 2024–2029, developed with support from the United Nations Development Programme, aimed at promoting dialogue between communities, improving access to public services, and preventing conflicts.

Halina said the government would continue working through security measures and dialogue to ensure that Chad’s diversity remains a source of strength rather than division.
