Chadian authorities have arrested 17 individuals involved in various criminal activities, including Sudanese arms traffickers as part of Operation Zero Criminals launched in the country. The suspects were presented to the media in Mongo, the provincial capital, on June 21.
Security forces seized 23 weapons of different calibers and 3,000 rounds of ammunition from a Toyota vehicle used to smuggle the arsenal.
The operation, initiated three weeks ago by the Government’s Delegate General, General Abdoulaye Ibrahim Siam, marks a significant step in the fight against regional insecurity.
In addition to the arms trafficking network, several highway robbers and escapees from Mongo and Am-Timan detention centers—linked to violent acts against civilians—were apprehended.
These arrests have boosted public confidence in the authorities’ ability to combat criminal networks and restore order.
The operation’s early successes are seen as a critical move towards long-term peace and stability in central Chad, a region vulnerable to cross-border threats and local banditry.
